Mario Testino opened his first show in Korea at Seoul Arts Center this month, continuing the fashion photographer’s Asia introduction that began with exhibitions in Beijing and Shanghai last year.

“Private View” features a total of 86 photographs, including his portraits of the British Royal Family, with whom he has close ties, Oscar-winning actors, and pop culture icons.

The most visible work is his shot of Lady Gaga, darkly bronzed in contrast to a bleached blonde bob and a shocking pink hood. Set against a pastel orange backdrop, the image has become the exhibition’s main poster for each city’s showcase.

Continuing the thread are photos from controversial fashion shoots with Gucci, Kate Moss, and more. The images date from 1994 to 2011, and were selected by Testino personally.

The celebrity shots include work with Brad Pitt, Madonna, Kirsten Dunst, and Emma Watson. The Royal Family portraits range from black-and-white images of the late Princess Diana to official engagement photos of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

A limited-edition photography book, Mario Testino: Private View, published by Taschen can also be purchased at the exhibition.

“Private View” runs through November 30 at Seoul Arts Centers’ Hangaram Art Museum. General admission is 15,000 won. Visit for more information about the photographer.
